
Law-enforcement agencies claimed to have arrested an alleged naib ameer of a militant group during a raid in Orangi Town.
The alleged naib ameer of the Punjabi Taliban, Saeedul Islam, was arrested after a team of Special Investigation Unit (SIU) raided his hideout in Orangi Town. SIU chief SP Farooq Awan said that the accused and his group were involved in a number of bank robberies, kidnapping for ransom and extortion cases. He hails from Waziristan and operates in Karachi, he added.
“The accused was responsible for generating funds for the organisation from Karachi,” said SP Awan. He said further raids on his comrades’ hideouts are being conducted in the city. Separately, SIU police also busted a gang of street criminals. The suspects, Ishtiaq, Sharjil, Naeem aka Farangi, Adnan aka doctor and Iqbal, were arrested during a separate raid in Orangi Town.
