KARACHI:

The provincial health authorities successfully completed their anti-polio campaign in ‘sensitive’ areas of the metropolis on Monday.

The campaign had been conducted peacefully in 19 Union Councils (UCs) while it had been deferred in the remaining five UCs till Monday. “Today (Monday), we have successfully covered the remaining five UCs in Bin Qasim and Landhi Towns,” said Dr Durre Naz Jamal, the deputy chief of the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI), while talking to The Express Tribune. “Yesterday (Sunday), we vaccinated 88 per cent of the total 415,000 children below the age of five years registered in these 24 UCs.

The remaining approximately 77,000 children were administered vaccines today (Monday).” Dr Jamal denied reports of any incident where parents had refused to administer the vaccines to their children.
