KARACHI:

The Sindh Assembly was informed on Monday that some militant organisations,  are operating in the University of Karachi and distributing literature to recruit students to their networks.

This was disclosed during the call attention notice submitted by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MPA Kamran Akhter. Referring to a Wall Street Journal report, he said militant organisations have occupied 33 union councils of Karachi and established their own courts to punish people according their own version of law.

“There is a constant threat and no dargah is spared from the attacks. Mandir and mosques are being targeted by these militants,” he alleged.

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon endorsed the MQM MPAs call and said that any organisation which directly or indirectly supports militants should be banned. “We will ask the IG to take action against those spreading militancy.”

On the other hand, JI leaders strongly reacted to the MQM’s demand to ban their party and asked the government impose a ban on the MQM instead.
