Sindhi community comes together in Houston

Sindhi Association of North America, Houston chapter, organises a fund-raising event for flood relief efforts.

HOUSTON:
The Sindhi Association of North America (SANA), Houston chapter, organised a fund-raising event for flood relief efforts in Pakistan.

The event was held on October 23 at Pakistan Centre in Houston, Texas and many community members attended to make contributions worth $70,000.

The programme, conducted by Sikander Baloch and Noornisa Ghanghro, welcomed the guests with Shah Latif and Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s poetry. SANA president Dr Valeed Shaikh delivered a speech on the flood situation in Pakistan. “SANA is a non-profit organisation that always supports fellow-Pakistanis in their time of need,” he said, adding that “I appreciate the efforts made by the local committee and urge them to donate generously”.


Pakistan Association of Greater Horton president Khalid Khan, who was also the guest speaker, said that the Pakistani-American community members were gravely concerned about the devastating flood situation. His association has arranged for distributing necessary items, such as medicines, water, milk, etc, among flood survivors.

He pledged $1,000 and appreciated the efforts made by SANA. The mayor of Houston also sent a message honouring the efforts. A documentary on the current flood situation was also screened.
