SUKKUR: To provide a break to the people from the prevailing lawlessness, ICON Superstore is presenting a flower exhibition on the theme, ‘When flowers bloom, so does hope’, said the owner of the superstore, Aamir Ghauri, while talking to The Express Tribune on Saturday.

He said that after watching the news people usually feel the need to take antidepressants. People need breathing space from their daily routine and this exhibition will give them the much-needed break, he said. Human beings, he said, are naturally inclined towards colourful flowers. Ghauri was of the view that the people can change the environment of their homes by placing flower pots around.

More than 3,200 plants of 20 varieties of flowers have been brought from Hyderabad, Pattoki and Sadiqabad, such as Calendula, Dahlia Figaro, Antirrhinum Admiral, Cineraria Silver dust, Swiss Chard, Lettuce, Alyssum Bonnet, Marigold, Verbenia, Phlox, Pansy, Gazania Mini, Dianthus, Diamond, Flowering Cabbage, Euphorbia, Sweet William, Bonanza, Nicotiana, Stock (Double) and others. The exhibition will continue till February 27, he added.

A young man, Irfan, who was taking pictures of flowers, appreciated ICON management for organising the event. He was of the view that such beautiful events are a pleasant change from the skyrocketing inflation and unabated violence.

Boys and girls of the All Pakistan Wowen Association’s School expressed their joy at seeing so many colourful flowers. Every student was eager to shake hands with Mickey Mouse, which was walking around to add to the attraction of the event.

Little Talha was first afraid of the giant Mickey Mouse, but when he saw other boys and girls shaking hands with the character, he could not contain his excitement and started jumping as soon as he got hold of him. Mickey Mouse is my favourite cartoon series, he said.

Hamna, a second-grade student, was really happy to see the collection of beautiful and colourful flowers. “We have a few flower pots at home, but these are so many. I want all of them at my home, but my mother wouldn’t allow,” she said. “I will get plenty of flower pots when I grow up.” A woman, who had come for shopping, was taking snaps with her cell phone. Flowers always attract me, she said, adding that in her apartment, however, there isn’t much space for flower pots.

A passer-by talking to The Express Tribune said that such types of events are a cool breeze in the sizzling hot weather. He was of the view that though the exhibition was small, the flowers have been arranged artistically.

More such events should be organised by the government, he suggested. However, he appreciated the spirit of ICON’s management for organising such events at regular intervals.

On the behalf of the whole ICON team, I promise the people of Sukkur that we will keep giving them more reasons to smile. Its the 4th day of exhibition today, only 2 days remaining and I already feel I'm going to miss the beauty and freshness of flowers around.
