Court sentences man to death for killing a woman at LRH
Prosecution proves that the accused killed his victim with a knife before dousing her with petrol, setting her alight.
PESHAWAR:
An Anti-Terrorism Court on Saturday sentenced a man to death after he was convicted of killing a woman in the accident and emergency department of the Lady Reading Hospital on March 25, 2013.
The prosecution counsel argued before the court of judge Syed Asghar Ali Shah that Jamshaid, a resident of Pajagi Road, had brought Noor Bibi, a resident of Palosai village, to the LRH on March 25, 2013. He then killed her with a knife in the washroom of the Operation Theater in LRH's accident and emergency department.
The counsel further argued that after brutally killing Noor Bibi, Jamshaid doused her body with petrol and set her on fire in order to mask her identity.
After the court heard arguments from both sides, it gave its verdict wherein Jamshaid was sentenced to death and fined Rs200,000. In the event the convict fails to pay the fine, he will be imprisoned for two additional years.
On March 27, 2013, a two-member division bench of former Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Dost Muhammad Khan and Justice Syed Afsar Shah took suo moto notice of the LRH murder. The court had summoned the hospital's chief executive Dr Arshad Javed and SSP (Operation) of Khan Raziq police station to form a committee to investigate the matter and apprehend the culprit.
As part of the investigation, the PHC had then ordered the exhumation of Noor Bibi's body and directed a district and session judge to form a medical panel supervised by a magistrate.
