The power supply to 300 houses was cut off by officials of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) for stealing electricity through kunda connections. Three men were arrested for opposing the company’s officials during the drive.

A team of Pesco officials, including Rural Subdivision Officer Waseemullah, Hydro Union Chairman Mohabat Shah, and Hydro spokesperson Sanaullah, along with police personnel launched a crackdown in Shabra, Agra Union Council on Saturday. The officials disconnected the electricity supply to 300 houses in Masilabad, Tairawal Koruna, Mohallah Ashraf Bacha and Motabar Koruna as they had not installed electricity meters and were stealing power from the main supply line.

The officials confiscated electric cables from several houses which were being used for theft and also arrested Abdul Halim, Nafees and Mushtaq when they offered resistance to Pesco officials.

Sanaullah said theft in the area was causing frequent power breakdowns and other problems. He added consumers who pay their bills were also facing difficulties because of the actions of others.

The spokesperson hoped after the drive, line losses in the area will be controlled, “We will continue the drive to facilitate honest consumers of the company.”
