KARACHI: Seasoned all-rounder Shahid Afridi received a cut on his cheek during a training session for the upcoming Asia Cup in Lahore on Thursday.

Afridi was hit on his right cheek by fast bowler Junaid Khan’s delivery during batting session just before the conclusion of third day of the camp at the Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday.

Head coach Moin Khan said that the injury was not serious.

“Afridi is a brave cricketer and minor injuries are not a worry for him,” said the former wicketkeeper.

“He is fine and will continue to attend the training camp.”

Hafeez happy with World T20 combination

Meanwhile, the all-rounder who will lead the team in World T20 following the Asia Cup was satisfied with the combination selected for the coveted event.

“The selectors have picked the best squad that is a blend of youth and experience,” he said.

“We have impact players in both batting and bowling departments. [Injured] Mohammad Irfan will be missed but we still have quality options for pace and spin.”

He also backed the inclusion of Kamran Akmal saying that the wicket-keeper was preferred for the mega tournament since he has a vast experience and has show good form.
