Man acquitted in daughters' murder case

RAWALPINDI:

The Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday set aside the convictions of a father who had been sentenced to death twice, along with 10 years' imprisonment and a fine of Rs30 million, in a case involving the brutal killing of his two minor daughters and the serious injury of his wife following a domestic dispute.

The bench comprising Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan and Justice Tariq Mahmood Bajwa declared the sentences void on technical grounds and ordered the release of the accused from Adiala Jail.

An Additional District and Sessions Judge in Rawalpindi had, on December 18, 2025, sentenced the accused, Usman Anwar son of Muhammad Anwar, to double death penalties for the murders of his two daughters, 13-year-old Anosh and five-year-old Lareeb. He was also awarded 10 years' imprisonment for grievously injuring his wife, Ayesha Bibi, and fined a total of Rs30m.

According to the prosecution, the accused was charged with fatally attacking his daughters with a sharp-edged weapon amid ongoing domestic disputes at his residence in Azizabad, Tench Bhatta, within the jurisdiction of RA Bazaar Police Station. The case was registered on July 15, 2024.
