Misconduct: LHC orders criminal case over sectarian comments

The Lahore High Court on Wednesday ordered a criminal case to be registered against Advocate Afaq Ahmed under anti-terrorism law, and suspended his licence for sectarian comments in his petition.

Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi was hearing a petition against the LHC Bar Association elections. Justice Naqvi said the petitioner was instigating sectarianism by using objectionable language in his petition.The court also issued a contempt notice to Ahmed.

LHCBA President Abid Saqi told the court that several complaints against Ahmed were pending with the bar. He said the Punjab Bar Council had also suspended his licence in the past. LHC additional registrar Ashtar Abbas said Ahmed had also misbehaved with court staffers.

The court directed the Old Anarkali SHO to lodge a case against Afaq.  The SHO later presented a copy of an FIR against Ahmed, and the court adjourned hearing for an indefinite period.
