Taxi driver murder case: Duty officer records statement in court

Following his statement, the court adjourned the case till today [Thursday].

A duty officer recorded his statement in the murder case of an unarmed taxi driver before the Anti-Terrorism Court on Wednesday. 


Lance Naiks Ghulam Rasool and Barkat Ali, and sepoys Waqar Ahmed and Qadeer Abbas of the Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, were arrested for their alleged involvement in the killing of the taxi driver, Murid Abbas, who was gunned down in Gulistan-e-Jauhar on July 16, 2013.


The officer told the court that all the Rangers officials were present at the site of the killing when he reached, adding that the officials told him that a suspect was shot and injured after he failed to stop his vehicle when ordered.

The Rangers officials said that the suspect was taken to the Darul Sehat Hospital, said the police officer, adding that the victim died before he could reach the hospital.

The body was handed over to the legal heirs and the widow of the victim registered a case with the police, he added. Following his statement, the court adjourned the case till today [Thursday].
