Cleaning up: Law enforcers arrest 38 suspects in targeted raids
Police claimed to have arrested two suspects who allegedly recruited men for militant training.
KARACHI:
Law-enforcement agencies claim to have apprehended 38 suspects during several targeted raids in different areas of the city on Tuesday.
Two suspects, allegedly affiliated with a militant outfit, as well as three robbers were claimed to have been arrested by the Baldia police during separate raids in Qaimkhani Colony and Abidabad areas of Baldia Town. The two members of a militant outfit, Samiullah alias Commando, and Amanullah, were arrested while a TT pistol, two rifles and a motorcycle were seized from their possession during the raid in Qaimkhani Colony. Meanwhile, three alleged robbers, Saadat Ali alias Mota, Ghulam Hussain and Raees Khan, were arrested from Abidabad.
The arrests were disclosed at a press conference by Baldia division SP Sajid Sadozai. SP Sadozai claimed that the suspected militants were involved in dispatching young men to tribal areas for militant training and they also generated funds for the outfit. He added that the robbers were involved in dozens of cases of robberies and other crimes.
Separately, District East SSP Pir Mohammad Shah also held a press conference where he disclosed the arrests of 10 suspects, including two alleged target killers. The alleged target killers, Minhas Haider and Rashid Khan, were involved in over one dozen cases of target killings, he claimed. SSP Shah added that the accused, Rashid Khan, was associated with a militant outfit, while Haider was running his own gang. He said that the other eight, identified as Athar, Subhan, Basharat, David, Rizwan, Yasir Butt, Waseem Ahmed and Habib Hussain, were involved in various cases of street crime.
Separately, Rangers claimed to have apprehended 23 suspects during targeted raids in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Dhobi Ghat, Faqir Goth, Kauser Town, Frontier Colony, Qayyumabad, Gulshan-e-Bunair, Dalmia, Shanti Nagar, Jugdal Chowk, Nawa Lane and Gul Muhammad Lane, Lyari. The Rangers spokesperson claimed that 23 criminals, including members of a militant outfit, target killers affiliated with political parties and criminals associated with the Lyari gang war were arrested during the raids. He added that 34 weapons of varying calibres were seized from their possession.
