Haroon Rashid appointed Director Game Development
Former Test batsman ‘promoted’, replaces Aamir Sohail at the post.
KARACHI:
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former Test cricketer Haroon Rashid, Director Game Development in place of Aamir Sohail, the board announced on Wednesday.
Sohail was chosen for the post before Zaka Ashraf’s removal as the PCB chairman. The former opening batsman barely got a chance to serve in the capacity just like his week long tenure as the chief selector.
The PCB stated that the decision to appoint Rashid in the new position was taken in the last meeting of PCB’s Management Committee.
Rashid has been serving in the board in various positions and previously worked as the Head Youth Development at the National Cricket Academy. He was also a part of PCB’s interim management committee.
PCB mulling ‘Big Three’ stance
Meanwhile, the PCB continued to assess its stance on the ‘Big Three’ issue and held discussions in this regard with former PCB chairman Tauqeer Zia on Monday.
The incumbent chairman Najam Sethi refused to reveal details of the discussion saying a new strategy was being made.
“We are all on the same page and the decision will be made in interest of Pakistan cricket,” said Sethi.
“The board will discuss this matter with other former PCB officials too. We have a month to form a strategy.
Zia was optimistic of resolving the matter in a befitting way for Pakistan.
“We should not be disheartened. Nobody can isolate Pakistan from international cricket.
“We won’t make a conclusion that will go against our cricket.”
Zia also stressed on the need of a lengthy tenure for PCB’s chairman.
“I will request the patron [Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif] to give a chairman ample time to execute his plans.”
