Technical fault in PIA flight creates panic

A PIA plane’s steering wheel jammed during landing, causes panic on-board and at the airport.

ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK 352 carrying 187 passengers failed to make a safe landing on Sunday at Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA).

The plane’s steering wheel jammed as it was flying from Quetta to Islamabad, causing panic on-board and at the airport. “The pilot managed to land despite the jammed control with the help of brakes,” said the airport manager Asghar Faheem.

The plane landed without suffering damage or harm to passengers, at a runway prepped with fire-brigade and emergency vehicles. Operations teams of the PIA had already arrived at the runaway in anticipation of any untoward situation.

“All necessary arrangements were made according to standard operating procedures,” said Faheem. He explained that the steering control required to steer the plane on the taxi-way after landing had stopped responding. “After it had stopped, the plane was taken to the terminal with the help of hanger,” Faheem added.

Everyone on-board, including the crew and passengers, remained unharmed. The Civil Aviation Authority said the plane was thoroughly checked and the minor fault was removed.
