Terror attempt: ATC awards prison terms to two Kakul attackers

An Anti Terrorist Court in Hazara division on Saturday convicted two men allegedly involved in attacking Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) Kakul while a third accused was acquitted due to lack of evidence.
In a pre dawn attack, which took place on January 27, 2012, rockets were fired at the academy. However, no casualties were caused.
According to police reports, the attackers had fired nine rockets from a hillock of Dheri village located some 1,200 metres in the east of the PMA on the backside of famous Ilyasi Mosque of Nawanshehr town.
Police remained clueless about the attackers till October 2013 when it arrested Farooq, Ashraf and Ejaz from the revenue limits of Mirpur police station and allegedly recovered from them three suicide vests, a rocket launcher and a few shells of mortar gun and explosive material.
They were tried under terrorism law and the ATC judge Anwar Ali Khan sentenced Farooq to 20-year imprisonment and Rs200,000 fine and Ashraf to 5-years imprisonment and Rs50,000 fine. Ejaz was, however, acquitted owing to lack of evidence.
