Aisamul Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan won the crucial doubles rubber as Pakistan lead 2-1 against Vietnam in Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Group II round one tie on Saturday.
The seasoned duo comfortably took the first two sets from Vietnam’s Linh Giang Trinh and Quoc Khanh Le 6-1, 6-1.
Aisam and Aqeel played their game of serve and volley to outplay the hosts.
However, the local players pushed the third set to a tie-break, which the Pakistan duo lost 7-6 (5).
But the pair regained their focus in the fourth set and sealed the win 6-2 with a more aggressive approach.
Pakistan now have the chance of winning the tie 3-1 after today’s reverse singles matches.
“We are hoping that Aqeel will win the first reverse singles match,” Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) official Shehzad Alvi stated.
