Shahzad shines against Faisalabad

Batsman Ahmed Shahzad scores double century in Quaid-i-Azam trophy.

Ahmed Shahzad stole the show on the second day of the Quaid-i-Azam trophy with a superb double hundred against Faisalabad as Habib Bank Limited (HBL) reached a mammoth 352 for one in reply to the hosts’ 172 all out. Shahzad, who faced 315 balls, hit 24 fours and three sixes and was well supported by Saleem Elahi, who made an unbeaten 110. The pair added an unbroken 307-run second wicket partnership as HBL stretched their lead to 180 on the second day of their four-day match.

Wapda on top against Sialkot

Wapda dominated the second day against Sialkot as they gained a 213-run lead with five wickets to spare in the first innings. Ali Azmat hit an unbeaten century and Ahmed Said supported with 64 not out as Wapda reached 339 for five against the hosts. The second day’s play, which saw the loss of only two wickets, was a stark contrast to the first when 13 wickets went down. Sialkot were earlier bundled out for a paltry 126 on the first day.

Khalil puts ZTBL in command

Mohammad Khalil grabbed three crucial wickets as Rawalpindi, facing a first-innings deficit of 120, were reduced to 117 for four at the end of the second day. Shoaib Nasir top scored with 56 before being dismissed. Earlier ZTBL, resuming at 119 for two, were bowled out for 235 as Sadaf Hussain, matching Sohail Tanvir’s performance on the first day, took six for 69.


NBP reach 201 against Islamabad

National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) reached 201 for five off just 44 overs on the second day against Islamabad as Rashid Riaz made a quickfire 66. The batsman seemed to be in a hurry to overhaul Islamabad’s first innings score of 352 as he hit 12 boundaries in his 75-ball knock. However, it was Imad Wasim who led Islamabad to their competitive total as he struck 133, laced with 16 fours and two sixes.

Multan fare well against SNGPL

Baber Ali hit 114 as Multan made 226 for five in reply to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited’s (SNGPL) 358 all out on the first day. Ali took 140 deliveries in a knock that included 17 fours and a six.
