LAHORE: The University of Health Sciences (UHS) and the Nova University, Lisbon, Portugal, have signed an agreement to launch an international master’s programme in Mental Health Policy and Services. UHS Vice Chancellor Maj Gen (r) Muhammad Aslam and Nova University Rector Doutor Antonio Rendas inked the MoU in a ceremony on Thursday. The programme is an initiative of the World Health Organisation with the aim to reach out to students of mental health in low and middle income countries, especially Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia, Djibouti and Sudan. Dr Aslam said the programme will begin in March 2015 and 20 students will be selected based on mutually agreed criteria. He said public mental health was an area not addressed adequately in traditional curricula. “The programme will help provide trained human resource for the formulation and implementation of mental health policies in both countries,” he said.
