KARACHI:

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) retained Sana Mir as captain for the forthcoming International Cricket Council Women’s World Twenty20, scheduled to be played from March 23 in Bangladesh. Bismah Maroof will continue to act as deputy to the seasoned all-rounder.

The national selectors have kept the 14-player squad that featured in the back-to-back tri-nation tournaments in Doha, unchanged. The series also featured South Africa and Ireland.

Pakistan won the Twenty20 format in the events that took place last month, defeating a promising South Africa side in the final by seven wickets.

As warm-up for the Women’s World Twenty20, Sana’s team will take on hosts Bangladesh in the One-Day International and Twenty20 series. Both the teams will play three one-dayers and five Twenty20s from March 2-15.

The selected players will assemble at the Lahore Country Club, Muridke, where the team’s training camp will get underway from February 17 to March 1.

A team official stated that the batting aspect of the game will be the main focus in the upcoming training camp.

“We’ll look to improve in all departments for this tournament,” said the official. “Even though our performance with the bat has picked up, but there is still much room for improvement and we’ll focus on that.”

Squad: Sana (captain), Bismah (vice-captain), Syeda Nain Fatima Abidi, Nida Rashid, Javeria Wadood, Syeda Batool Fatima Naqvi  (wicket-Keeper), Asmavia Iqbal Khokhar, Qanita Jalil, Sumaiya Siddiqui, Sadia Yousaf, Bibi Nahida, Sania Iqbal, Sidra Amin, Marina Iqbal.
