KARACHI:
Two prosecution witnesses recorded their statements on Wednesday in the murder case of a taxi driver before an anti-terrorism court (ATC).
The complainant, who is also the widow of the deceased taxi driver, said she was informed about the incident over the phone by a police official. Later, she was told that her husband was shot dead by Rangers officials, she claimed.
She told the court that her statement was recorded by the police at her house and the police had taken her signatures on the FIR without reading out its contents to her. The complainant also said that she had forgiven the suspects without any pressure and was willing to withdraw the case. Earlier, the complainant had recorded a different statement with the police.
The second witness, the police official who had registered the FIR, told the court that the FIR was registered according to the statement of the complainant and the content was also read out to her.
Lance Naiks, Ghulam Rasool and Barkat Ali, and sepoys, Waqar Ahmed and Qadeer Abbas, of Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, were arrested for their alleged involvement in the killing of the taxi driver, Murid Abbas, who was gunned down in Gulistan-e-Jauhar on July 16.
The police had submitted a chargesheet in court against Rasool only, saying it was a case of accidental and unintentional murder because the suspect had tried to stop the taxi driver by opening fire at the tyre of his vehicle.
The ATC-I adjourned the hearing till February 13 (today).
