Ravissant Wellness Lounge: For a complete you

Socialites have realised that surface beauty is not enough but that it runs much deeper.

KARACHI:
Socialites have realised that surface beauty is not enough but that it runs much deeper. Thus nowadays, de-stressing is given a lot of importance and bearing this in mind, Daulat Rahimtoola has come up with the idea of opening up Ravissant Wellness Lounge.

The lounge is a one room facility which has been opened in Ravissant Salon. Rahimtoola told The Express Tribune that her inspiration for the Ravissant Wellness Lounge was a strong need for clients, “to improve their personalities and image.”

Thus far, the lounge has three specialists on board; a clinical psychologist, nutritionist and a cosmetic surgeon. However, Rahimtoola plans to have two more specialists; a general physician and a dermatologist, join her team. Clients can make appointments with these doctors for consultation.

Dr Ayesha Siddiqui is the clinical psychologist working with Rahimtoola and has ten years of experience in the said field, “People are generally stressed out, each one of us wants to de-stress and avoid emotional disturbance. Hence, a third impartial person is needed to give an opinion and that’s where a psychologist is most needed.”

When it comes to Pakistani society, “I have felt that anger management is a big issue and depression is very common in our society. Additionally many people face marital problems and need to discuss issues related to this,” said Siddiqui.

Dr Tahir Shaikh, the Cosmetic Surgeon at the Wellness Lounge said, “Once in awhile, everyone needs to boost their self-esteem. There are people who fall into depression because their physical appearance is not picture-perfect. These same individuals then see celebrities on their television screens and their need to look good increases. Secondly, it is our social setup, our cultural mindset that parents want their (female) child to look perfect. If a girl has a mole, an extra finger or a cleft lip, we will always find an excuse to have this treated. However, minimal attention or emphasis is put on boys’ physical imperfections and attributes.”

Generally, Shaikh believes people have image issues and once they fall into the age bracket of the late 30’s and early 40’s, their physical appearance starts to matter more. Hence, the Ravissant Wellness Lounge hopes to treat women, “who have skin problems, deep wrinkle issues and scars which they desperately want to get rid of.”

The charm of looking ‘good’ in conventional terms has a lot to do with weight reduction for which exercise becomes an essential tool to changing one’s lifestyle. Nutritionist Vajeeha Azeem said, “People in general and women in particular don’t look after their diet and this is most commonly an attribute of having a stressful life.”

Azeem believes the Wellness Lounge will bring about a drastic transformation and “things will change, as there is more awareness in people than before.”

“It has hardly been a week since we opened the Ravissant Wellness Lounge but I hope we can make it a success and more importantly help others to feel better,” said Rahimtoola.
