ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif demanded a report on the alleged torture of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) worker Fahad Aziz while talking to Governor Sindh Ishratul Ebad via telephone, Express News reported on Tuesday.

Aziz, 30, was arrested on February 8 when he was en route to his wedding and allegedly subjected to torture during interrogation.

MQM’s concerns regarding the Karachi operation were also discussed. MQM had claimed that the operation was targeting the party specifically, adding that 45 MQM members have disappeared since last year.

A report on the Karachi operation was also demanded by the prime minister.

Nawaz advised Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to go to Karachi to assess the situation.

Karachi operation

The targeted operation started in Karachi after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited the metropolitan in September last year in a bid to devise a strategy to curb violence.

With the provincial government on board, the prime minister had given a go-ahead to the paramilitary force to conduct raids and arrest criminals with the help of the police. Subsequently, the operation began on September 7, 2013.

"Alleged" torture? Are you for real ET?

Extrajudicial killing is the norm for our LEAs. Look at what happened to Sarfaraz Shah or Taxi Driver. Look at the mass graves in Baluchistan. Hear from the thousands of mothers/wives affected by the 90s Karachi Operation.
