Crying foul: MQM walks out of session in protest
Opposition leader took exception to statement of AIG Shahid Hayat in which he declared Fahad a target killer.
KARACHI:
Lawmakers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) walked out of the Sindh Assembly session on Monday to protest the arrest of party worker Fahad Aziz.
As the session started with Agha Siraj Durrani in the chair, the opposition leader in the provincial assembly, Faisal Subzwari, who belongs to the MQM, stood up and sought the speaker’s attention.
In his address, Subzwari criticised the police for arresting Fahad. “Not only did the police arrested our worker, they even tortured him. He was the same man who was arrested by Rangers about a month ago. Rangers released him after three days for they found him innocent, but the police personnel, who were not satisfied with the Rangers’ inquiry, took him in their custody and beat him,” he said. “Fahad is not the only one. Dozens of our workers have been kidnapped by plains-clothed personnel.”
The opposition leader took exception to the statement of additional IG Shahid Hayat in which he had declared Fahad a target killer. “Police have released him, but such kinds of statements by the police chief show his intent.” Later, the MQM lawmakers walked out of the session.
