Fahad Aziz, 30, was arrested on Saturday night when he was en route to his wedding. Police said Aziz was allegedly involved in incidents of target killing, extortion and other crimes in the city.

Hospital sources told Express News that Aziz’s body bore torture marks when he was admitted and that his condition has improved.

Shah Faisal Colony Police had arrested Aziz under Section 54 of Pakistan Penal Code which allows police to take suspects into custody and interrogate them.

MQM had protested the arrest and called for change in top leadership of city police.

MQM's reaction

MQM leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui addressed the media Sunday evening and claimed that the medical report confirmed that Fahad was a victim of torture by the police.

Siddiqui alleged that the police were extorting Rs220 million from the city of Karachi every day. He added that over the past few months, many MQM workers had disappeared under suspicious circumstances. He appealed to the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and other authorities to take notice of this situation.

Haider Abbas Rizvi also addressed the media reiterating the party’s stance.
