KARACHI:

Muhammad Munir’s brilliant performance of five-under-par on day two of the DHA Bank AlBaraka Cup Golf Championship helped him take top position at the leaderboard.

Munir, who had ended day one with 72, played much better on the second day as his final score of 67 brought him back into contention with a total of 139. His closest rival Imran Ali Bakhsh, who finished just one shot behind, blew a good chance to build up an important lead with a poor display of two-over-par.

Another big mover was Ashir Masih, who turned the tables by carding a four-under-par and will go into the final day with 141 points, while Waheed Baloch also remained in contention after he ended with a one-under-par at 142 points.

Seasoned campaigner Mohammad Shabbir started to get in groove at the end of penultimate day by scoring a three-under-par, which kept him on the heels of front runners as he had total of 143.

Apart from the leading pack, three players are tied at joint sixth – Mohammad Tahir, Matloob Ahmed and Latif Rafiq – on a total of 144.

There was a significant difference in the style of play of Tahir and Ahmed as both ended up with hugely contrasting results.

Tahir made amends for his poor show of a three-over-par to cut it down to a three-under-par, while Ahmed blew away his chance as he could not repeat his earlier show of a four-under-par and ended up with four-over-par.
