Death of an artist: Actor Ghayyur Akhtar dies at 67

Celebrated actor and comedian Ghayyur Akhtar died of health complications on Friday at the age of 67.
Winner of Pride of Performance Award, Akhtar, struggled with paralysis for three years, and was admitted at the Services Hospital a day earlier after his condition deteriorated.
Over the years, Akhtar appeared in many films and radio productions but he found fame in television dramas. Born in 1946 in Lahore, Ghayyur Akhtar started his acting career in the late 1970s. By the 1980s he had already established himself in several dramas such as ‘Khawaja and Sons’, ‘Sona Chandi’, ‘Free Hit’, ‘Ghar Aya Mera Perdesi’, ‘Afsar Bekare Khas’, ‘Rahain’, and ‘Sitara’.
His roles in films were also memorable. He also played the role of ‘Samri Jadoo Gar’ in drama serial ‘Ainak Wala Jin’ that was a hit amongst children in the early 1990s.
He also wrote some stage dramas and ‘Kutkutarian’ was the first among them.
