ISLAMABAD:

A local court Friday ordered the city managers to remove all illegal katchi abadis.

Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to clear all illegal settlements from the capital within a month.

He asked the CDA official Amir Ali Ahmed to comply with the orders and submit a detailed report on March 12 on the next hearing.

On January 28, the court had summoned the interior secretary and the CDA member seeking details on the mushroom growth of katchi abadis.

Additional secretary interior and CDA member, administration, Amir Ali Ahmed appeared before the court.

The court asked about practical steps taken by the authority, however, the officials failed to satisfy the court.

Additional secretary interior claimed that the ministry has tasked Inspector General of Police to conduct a survey of all the slums and promised to submit a report soon.

The court adjourned the matter till March 12.
