The government has finalised a comprehensive security plan for an immunisation drive scheduled for Sunday that will see 25,600 policemen deployed in 13,290 teams across the province to protect vaccination teams.


Official sources told The Express Tribune that in addition to police deployment, around 26,500 qaumi razakars, or police volunteers, will assist law enforcement agencies.


Peshawar district has been divided into 86 zones where 420 checkpoints will be manned by more than 2,000 policemen.

“In Peshawar, around 2,077 policemen will be deployed in total, along with volunteers, reserve police personnel and Frontier Constabulary officials,” said an official, adding bomb disposal squad (BDS) and sniffer dogs will assist police teams while the traffic police in each district has been asked to deploy extra personnel to regulate traffic in their respective districts.

Moreover, according to a handout issued by the Peshawar deputy commissioner’s office, a ban has been imposed on motorcycles in the district on Sunday, February 9, under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Anyone found violating the order shall be proceeded against under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code, read the statement.
