Spring is upon us and the best part about the changing weather is getting out of all those winter layers and embracing the new season in style.

As couture shows wrapped up internationally, it was inevitable that certain trends would make a mark not only on runways, but will also soon be seen on fashionistas around the world.

Fringe and crossbody bags are spring must-haves

Be it hair, make-up, apparel or accessories, we understand Pakistan has certain style restrictions socially, so here is a low down on what we think would make an impact on your spring wardrobe in Pakistan.

Spring is generally associated with flowers blossoming and the sun shining; people are seen wearing a multitude of pastels and various shades of pink. This is the year to change that.

This season is all about primary colours and earthier tones. Runways across the globe saw interesting colour choices being implemented for spring and frankly speaking, they were a breath of fresh air and a far cry from the ‘typical’ spring colours seen in the past. Steer away from pinks and lilacs and make a fresh start with shades of blue and earthy tones this spring.

Make a fresh start with blue and earthy tones

We love this new outlook towards spring colours, and one thing that has really caught the attention of stylists and editors worldwide would have to be the crisp white outfit. Nothing exudes class more than white. Especially, with the warmer spring in Pakistan, it will be nice to go all-out white with your fashion choices once winter trails off.

While many consider the sweatshirt to be a college staple for the library or for lazing around on a Sunday morning, this season, it is causing a trendy stir.

Say hello to Spring 2014 shoes! Chanel Couture Sneakers, Narciso Rodriguez and Tom Ford

From sleek printed sweatshirts to embellished ones, they are all the rage, and are perfect for a laid-back yet stylish look. Designers, such as Kenzo, Celine and Markus Lupfer have been designing some fantastic sweatshirts, but a fun local option would be to check out Retroworks. They have some uber funky sartorial sweatshirts that will make the right statement.

It’s time to play peek-a-boo, without actually showing off some skin. This season no one has played peek-a-boo better than Armani Privé. The sheer organza tops were fabulous and this is a trend that can be easily translated into both eastern and western wear. Ladies, bring out the organza and play around with it as you deem comfortable.

No outfit is complete without the perfect shoes and no woman can ever have enough, can they? Runways across the spectrum were full of statement shoes as far as the eyes could see. From Chanel’s sneakers, to Tom Ford’s laser cut thigh-high peep toe boots; from Dior’s shin-hugging meshed metal heels to Giambattista Valli’s metallic pointy toe heels, there was a lot to love. Get away from the basics this spring, and skip to a different beat with some unique footwear to jazz up your outfit. Definitely take some inspiration from Tabitha Simmons’ range and play around.

Look lean in boyfriend jeans

We all know that Pakistani women love their handbags. No matter where you go, you’ll see women lunching and taking pictures with their totes tightly stowed away on their arms like their most prized possession. Here are two trends to watch out for. The first is fringe, fringe and more fringe! Check out Proenza Schouler for some fringe science. The second are crossbody bags; they are definitely a style worth picking up this season. Ladies, give your elbows a rest and pick up some crossbody bags.

A throwback trend that needs to be embraced more wholly in Pakistan would have to be boyfriend jeans. Denim never goes out of style, but it’s always fun to experiment with different cuts.

For hair this season, the ’90s minimalism is back; sleek no-fuss hair is in. Try sporting the middle parting to give your face some definition. It’s time to get rid of the backcombed hair trend that people have followed throughout the wedding season, and embrace the sleeker look.

Sweatshirt fashion alert

While many make-up trends were seen this season, the one that is a must try would have to be orange lips — the brighter the better. Orange is one of those colours that suit every skin tone, so go for the fresh and clean look with a pop of orange lip to define your spring look.
