SWABI:
Unidentified robbers took home gold worth Rs20 million after looting seven shops in Raja Bazaar, Topi early Thursday morning.

Swabi DPO Sajjad Khan said robbers came in two vehicles to Qazi Shopping Plaza at around 3am and locked all nine guards of the market in a room. He said the dacoits broke locks of seven shops and took away the gold which shopkeepers estimated to be worth Rs20 million.

The DPO said the guards told the police the men, all suited and booted, told them to gather in a room as the area’s SHO had called them to the police station. They then overpowered them, locked them in a room and stole the gold. Policemen also recovered some of the tools used in the robbery that were left behind by the culprits.

Khan said a forensic team had been called from Peshawar that would take fingerprints from the crime scene, adding a four-member investigation team has also been formed to probe the case.

All nine guards were also taken into custody by the Topi police for interrogation.
