Cash injection: Punjab CM approves Rs 100 million for PHF
The sports body is forced to cut several engagements due to lack of funds.

The cash-starved Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) received a lifeline when Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced a grant of Rs100 million for the sports body.
The development came following Shahbaz’s meeting with the PHF President Akhtar Rasool on Wednesday.
Confirming details of the meeting, PHF secretary Rana Mujahid said that the chief minister has ordered immediate release of the grant.
Welcoming the announcement, Mujahid said, “The announcement by the chief minister is nothing less than restoring oxygen supply for the national game.”
“We were in desperate need for funds and on the behalf of the entire hockey fraternity and players. I thank Shahbaz Sharif for this noble gesture.”
The secretary added the PHF will make announcements over the pending plans in a press conference on Thursday.
Earlier, PHF, which has been in dire straits, had requested the government to allocate Rs500 million in the upcoming budget for the sports body.
According officials, PHF was forced to curtail its activities due to lack of funds including a delay in national training camp for the forthcoming Azlan Shah Cup, a major international assignment for Pakistan.
