Safety first: ‘Health measures to be improved’

Sindh provincial government to ensure professional health and safety of labours with relevant measures.

KARACHI:
Sindh labour secretary Noor Muhammad Leghari said that the Sindh provincial government is bound to ensure professional health and safety of the labours and it will take up all relevant measures. Leghari highlighted this during a steering committee meeting on Tuesday attended by the International Labour Organisation country director Francesco D’Ovido, Employees Federation of Pakistan’s president Khawaja Nauman and Pakistan Workers Federation regional general secretary Qazi Tanveer Ahmed along with their delegations. Leghari directed the directorate of labour officials to take action against those factories that were not following the approved criterion for the health and safety of the workers. It was also decided in the meeting that a final draft of the health and safety of the workers in the work place manual will be prepared in a month, which would be dispatched to the provincial cabinet for approval.
