Danish Kaneria was the destroyer-in-chief as Faisalabad crashed to 172 all out in their first innings against Habib Bank Limited (HBL) on the opening day of the Quaid-i-Azam trophy.

Kaneria, not selected in the limited-overs squad for the UAE series against South Africa, did his practice opportunity no harm as he took five for 75 while the hosts struggled to find feet against the leg-spinner. He was supported well by Sarmad Anwar, who took three for 34.

In reply, HBL reached 40 for no loss as they attempt to take the lead today.

WAPDA punish sloppy Sialkot

Wapda dominated the first day of their match against Sialkot as they bowled out the hosts for a paltry 126 before reaching 74 for three with Adil Nisar unbeaten on 33.

Zulfiqar Babar took three for 23 while Rana Navedul Hasan grabbed two for 53 to send the home team packing in their first innings.

Hafiz Majid was the sole consolation for Sialkot as he scored 55 but none of the other batsmen offered any support. Wapda trail by just 52 runs with seven wickets remaining in the first innings.

ZTBL on song against Rawalpindi

Sohail Tanvir destroyed Rawalpindi as ZTBL grabbed a four-run lead on the first day against the hosts. Rawalpindi were bowled out for 115 as Tanvir grabbed six for 41 while Rao Iftikhar claimed three for 17 before ZTBL cruised to 119 for two in just 28 overs. Shahid Yousuf (55) and Imran Nazir (56) remained unbeaten at stumps. It was in start contrast to Rawalpindi as none of the batsmen in their innings went beyond Jamal Anwar’s 29.

Islamabad do well against NBP

Islamabad were the only home time to do well in their first innings on the opening day as they reached 240 for seven against National Bank of Pakistan (NBP). Imad Wasim scored an unbeaten 48 and was supported by Ameer Khan, who contributed 43. Qaiser Abbas took a brace for 43.
