Caught red-handed: Two convicted of robbery charges

A sessions court convicted on Tuesday a woman and her male accomplice of robbery charges and sentenced them to four years in prison each, after the prosecution successfully proved its case against them.


Misbah and Tariq were found guilty of depriving a man, Shahzad, of a cellphone and other valuables in the limits of Korangi Industrial Area police station on June 12, 2012. According to the prosecution, a police van patrolling the area had reached the spot and arrested both the accused and seized a pistol from their possession.


The assistant sessions judge in district East, Sarwat Sultana, announced the verdict after recording evidence and hearing arguments from both sides. The court also imposed a fine of Rs30,000 each. In case they fail to pay, the convicts will undergo an additional six-month imprisonment.

Separately, a judicial magistrate sent a suspect, who had been arrested on charges of cheating people on pretext of doubling their money, to jail on judicial remand for 14 days. A judicial magistrate in district South remanded the suspect, Shafiq-ur-Rehman, after he was produced before the court.

Several cases have been registered against Rehman and his accomplices in different police stations, said the police, adding that the suspect was arrested on charges of giving bogus cheques to the complainants.
