Consumer court: Notice issued over mobile phone

Suit seeks Rs 100,000 damages for the sale of a defective mobile.

LAHORE:
A consumer court issued a notice to the owner of a mobile phone store on Monday in a suit seeking Rs 100,000 damages for the sale of a defective mobile. Khawaja Kamran told the court that he had purchased a Samsung mobile GT19500 for Rs65,000 on November 15 from Al-Fateh Mobile Shop in Johar Town. He said Asim Ali Shaikh, the store owner, assured him that the phone was of good quality. He said after a few days, he noticed that the phone powered off when he picked up an incoming call. He said the microphone was also broken and caused distortion. He said he took the phone to Shaikh who claimed to have repaired it. He said when he took the phone home, it still had the problem. He said he complained to Shaikh again but this time he refused to repair the phone or replace it. He asked the court to direct Shaikh to pay him Rs100,000 damages for the mental agony he had suffered and replace the mobile phone with a new one. Talking to The Express Tribune, Shaikh said that he had repaired Kamran’s mobile phone. He said Kamran had seemed satisfied with the repairs. “I don’t know why he moved a court against me,” he added.
