Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the chief minister of India’s Haryana state, was slapped by a youth while he was en route to a rally in Panipat, the Press Trust of India reported on Sunday.
The chief minister was standing in the front seat of an open Gypsy SUV and was part of a Congress roadshow in Panipat, 170 km from Chandigarh.
The youth attempted to climb onto the pick-up and in a flash, slapped the chief minister. Haryana police personnel around Hooda immediately seized and whisked the young man away from the scene.
The identity of the attacker was not immediately known.
An agitated Hooda could be seen giving instructions to the security personnel following the incident.
Following the incident, Hooda said basic facilities would be provided in Haryana’s unauthorised colonies and the people would be charged less for services.
He even dedicated 10 projects at the cost of Rs 240 crore to the people of Panipat, and said development of the historic city was among his government’s priorities.
Not the first time
In August 2010, 21-year-old Shakti Singh, who claimed he was frustrated over the state government’s failure to give him a job, hurled a shoe at Hooda during a rally in Mahendergrarh. The shoe fell nearly 70-ft short of the target.
According to Hooda’s political adviser Prof Virender, the CM pardoned Singh as he was suffering from depression.
