He was speaking to a group of journalists at the residence of PML-Q officer bearer, Anees Bandhani, in Sukkur on Saturday night.
Speaking about the general election in May 2013, Shaikh said that the country had been divided as different parties had assumed charge of different provinces. “This has left the federation weak,” he lamented. Speaking of the political parties in Sindh, he said that one party raised slogans of Sindh one and Sindh two while the other party screamed, ‘Marsoon Marsoon, Sindh na Desoon.’ “This is a very bad omen for the province.”
Shaikh was of the view that the friendly opposition between the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz had ruined the country. “We all witnessed a glimpse of the love affair between the PML-N and the PPP at Tharparkar recently.”
Citing the example of the Aam Admi Party in India, he said that its success proved that common people could bring about change with the help of able and sincere leadership.
“I am taking a tour of Sindh to strengthen my party because we want to invite common people from the middle and lower middle classes - the peasants, labourers and journalists to bring about change,” said Shaikh. “With the strength of the people, we will play the role of real opposition and will bring an end to the policy of taking turns adopted by the PPP and PML-N.”
