SUKKUR:

The SHO of  Sukkur’s  “B” section police station and his guard were sent to jail on judicial remand on Saturday, on the charges of attempted theft of a car and maltreating its owner near the general post office at Minara Road on Thursday night.

According to reports, a Hindu trader and resident of Salehpat, Pardeep Kumar, parked his car outside the general post office and went to the market to purchase some medicines. On his return, he found two men sitting in his car and started shouting for help. “B” section SHO Agha Aftab rushed to the scene and the owner of the car told him that the suspected men had broken the lock of his car and were trying to take it away. Instead of listening to his plea and taking action against the suspects, the SHO and both the suspects reportedly started maltreating the owner of the car. Someone from the crowd informed Sukkur SSP about the incident, who immediately ordered City ASP Amjad Hayat to visit the site and look into the matter. On his arrival, SHO Agha Aftab told him that both the men were his private guards and as the car was parked at the wrong spot and not locked, they were taking it to the police station. He alleged that the owner was wrongfully accusing them of theft.

Sukkur SSP Fida Hussain Shah, however, ordered the police to arrest the SHO and men and also directed City ASP to investigate the matter.

Later, on the complaint of Pardeep Kumar, an FIR was registered against SHO Agha Aftab, his guard Zahoor Ahmed and an unidentified person.

Talking to The Express Tribune, SSP Shah confirmed that the SHO and his guard were produced in the court and have been sent to jail on judicial remand.

He said that SHO will have to face departmental inquiry, after which action will be taken accordingly.
