The house of a police official was attacked when a bomb planted by militants near the main gate of his residence went off early Saturday morning in Hawaid, Bannu.

Bannu DSP Headquarters Sanaullah Marwat said the incident occurred at around 5am. Marwat said unidentified militants planted a bomb in front of the main gate of the house of police constable Jamshed Khan, deployed at Hawaid police station. The bomb was detonated using a remote-controlled device, destroying the gate and boundary wall.

Marwat said according to Jamshed, his family members were sleeping when the incident occurred, after which they rushed out of their rooms and saw the gate and wall razed to the ground. Reportedly, Jamshed has stated that he had no personal rivalries with anyone.

The DSP reported that two kilogrammes of explosives had been used in the bomb, and that a case had been registered against unidentified militants.

In another incident, an improvised explosive device planted in Saile Korona, Hawaid exploded on Friday night, but no loss was reported.

The DSP said unidentified militants had planted a high-intensity bomb with five kilogrammes of explosives in an open ground. He added the ground was near the main road and that a large number of people came there to walk and play in the evening.

Meanwhile, Bannu police defused 30 rocket shells and one hand grenade along the bank of Kurram River on Saturday.

Additional SHO Abdul Hamid Khan Marwat said Bannu city police recovered the ammunition and some empty shells during a drive in the area. The SHO added that an official of the bomb disposal squad (BDS) defused the explosives under the supervision of civil judge Naeemullah Jadoon.
