The National Assembly’s standing committee on food and agriculture met on Friday to discuss losses incurred by the agriculture sector because of the recent flooding in the country.

- The committee directed that the cases/loans which have totally collapsed due to floods should be completely written off.
- The committee directed the ministry of food and agriculture to ensure completion of Assistance Plan before November 1 or before the date of sowing crops in different areas.
- It expressed sorrow that Crop Loan Insurance Scheme had been launched
- but practically so far no relief has been granted to the farmers.
- The committee also noted that it has been unanimously agreed upon by the international and national organisations that the agriculture sector has been most affected due to the floods.
