MUNIK 2014: Over 1,200 delegates participate in IBA’s conference

Over 1,200 delegates are participating in the four-day conference of Model United Nations, IBA Karachi, (Munik) that started on Thursday.
Eighteen committees, a host of international committee chairs and esteemed guest speakers from diverse backgrounds and four promising days, rich with diplomacy and diversity, is what the conference offers the delegates.
Five years ago, Munik took a modest start with 400 delegates. Today, half a decade down, it is 1,200-delegate strong.
The vision of Munik is to promote academic debate among the youth, which pertains to current issues in the international forum. Through an environment that fosters greater responsibility and leadership, Munik gives students a platform to understand the dynamics of international relations by enabling them to step in the shoes of global ambassadors and world leaders.
The conference will provide delegates the chance to experience the workings of a United Nations session. Eighteen committees have been formed for delegates to represent their respective countries and the organisers are particularly thrilled to unveil this year’s new entrant, The Heroes Committee. Another milestone - the Futuristic Security Council, is the result of collaboration between Model UN Turkey and Munik. The FSC is geared to push delegates to their limits to discuss new ideas and generate novel solutions to the problems in the global landscape.
In its half-a-decade edition, Munik is set to celebrate with an all-star cast. Following the trends of previous editions, the conference has set a high bar with its panel of dynamic committee directors, a large percentage of whom haev flown in from outside Pakistan, especially for the conference. A panel of guest speakers has also been invited to speak on policy issues. The guests include former senator and federal minister Javed Jabbar, US consul-general in Karachi Michael Dodman, ambassador Hussain Haroon, Dr Syed Nomanul Haq, Dr Framji Millwala, Jibran Nasir and others.
