LAHORE:

Representatives of the Lahore High Court Bar Association, the Punjab Bar Council and the Lahore Bar Association told Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Thursday that lawyers would not go on strike during court hours.

They had appeared before the court on a petition by Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafree who asked the court to order lawyers not to strike during court hours. The petitioner submitted that the Supreme Court of India had banned lawyers’ strikes during court hours in 2003 and there had been no strike since then.

LHCBA President Abid Saqi, LBA president Muhammad Ishtiaq and PbBC assistant secretary Khalid Umar said they had agreed to call strikes after court hours so legal work was not disrupted.

The judge praised the decision and asked them to submit a written undertaking in this regard. Lawyers said they would submit the record on February 3.
