ISLAMABAD:
A local court on Wednesday summoned Pakistan Environment Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) chief and two other officials for not complying with its order in a salary case.
Chief Justice Muhammad Anwar Kasi of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) directed Pak-EPA director-general Asif Shuja, Finance Deputy Director Saif Awan, and Climate Change Secretary Raja Hassan Abbas to appear in court and respond to a contempt petition filed by Mazarullah, a microbiologist working for the Environment Monitoring System (EMS) under the Climate Change division, seeking criminal proceedings against the agency officials for not implementing the court order. The next date will be fixed by the registrar.
On September 17, 2013 the bench directed the agency to implement the pay package of the petitioner retrospectively from the date when he had filed the petition against his suspension in 2008.
The petitioner’s counsel Advocate Ali Murad maintained that his client has been associated with EMS for the last eight years and in 2008 former president Asif Ali Zardari had announced a standard pay package for contractual employees. However, the Pak-EPA officials failed to implement it and suspended his client.
His client challenged the decision and the court provided him relief.
