Clean up: Un-accounted for gas reduced, says SNGPL
Extensive crackdown, leakage rectification results in improvement.

Despite a poor law and order situation and considerable increase in retail consumers, the management of Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) has been successful in reducing un-accounted for gas (UFG) from 12.6% in 2011 to around 10%, resulting in savings exceeding Rs4 billion, stated a press release.
This has been achieved through an extensive crackdown on gas theft, improved vigilance, rectification of leakages, replacement of defective meters and weeding out of corrupt elements from within the organisation. This is in line with the present government’s aim to achieve excellence through good governance.
Details of measures taken by the management through introduction of accountability at all levels within the company show that SNGPL recovered over Rs42 billion from 460,000 defaulting industrial, commercial and domestic consumers. Pilferage and tempering volume exceeding 22,000 million cubic feet per (mmcf) had been detected on account of non-consumers, while pilferage and tempering volumes exceeding 14,500 mmcf had been detected owing to untiring efforts, and over Rs8 billion have been booked to 40,000 consumers.
SNGPL disconnected over 110,000 industrial, commercial and domestic defaulting consumers. As many as 648 punishments were given to company’s executives and staff found involved in huge gas theft.
It was regretted that certain corrupt elements had to be weeded out from SNGPL by the management.
