KARACHI:

The Lady Health Workers’ (LHW) salaries for three months were released on Monday, The Express Tribune learnt.

The health officials have assured the LHWs that their concerns about the security arrangements during polio campaigns will also be addressed. In a meeting held with Sindh health secretary, Iqbal Durrani, the office bearers of LHWs presented their demands, which included security from their houses to the field, and security arrangements in areas where the polio workers administer drops. Their salaries were released before the meeting in a gesture that aims to assure them that their concerns are being taken seriously.

The polio workers decided to continue their drive against the disease despite the recent killings of three polio workers in Qayyumabad. “We will not succumb to the threats and attacks,” said LHW president Bushra Arain.
