Jamia Milia, Nixor College clinch titles
Play-for-Peace Table Tennis Tournament concludes on day three.
KARACHI:
The Nasra School Wazir Ali Memorial Play-for-Peace Table Tennis Tournament 2014 concluded at the Islamia Club on Monday.
Jamia Millia and DA College clinched the girl’s title, while The City School Darakhshan Campus and Nixor College clinched the boy’s competition.
The tournament was held at the Nasra School in collaboration with the Karachi Youth Initiative with an aim of promoting peace through sports. A total of 40 schools competed in the three-day event.
The tournament featured 448 students, who represented their schools in girls and boys junior and boys senior events.
Jamia Milia defeated BMS Majeed SRE School 2-0 in the juniors’ event, while DA College outplayed Sir Adamjee Girls College 2-0 in the A’ Levels competition.
In the boy’s competition, The City School defeated DA Public School 2-0 in the juniors’ event and Nixor College overcame Aga Khan Higher Secondary School Karimabad 2-1 in the seniors’ final.
Pakistani musician and philanthropist Shehzad Roy was the chief guest at the closing ceremony on Monday.
“I appreciate the efforts of Nasra School and Karachi Youth Initiative,” Roy said in the press statement. “Tournaments for students will facilitate the youth and bring tolerance among them.”
The Nasra School spokesperson Diane D’ Costa said that the tournament was well received among the students.
“Nasra School has been holding the table tennis event for the last 20 years,” D’ Costa told The Express Tribune.
