KARACHI:
As many as 500 retired soldiers of the Pakistan army have joined the police force in Karachi. For the first time, the government of Sindh decided to recruit retired men from the armed forces after the police department made a recommendation to the provincial government to combat terrorism in the city in August last year. “Appointment letters to 500 personnel have been issued,” confirmed an official at the Central Police Office. “After training on the use of firearms for at least 15 days at the Police Training Centre in Saeedabad, these 500 newly appointed recruits are likely to be deployed in Lyari.”
