The Sindh Government announced its decision to ban pillion riding in Karachi for one month, Express News reported on Sunday.
The ban will be in effect from midnight and will continue for an entire month due to the current law and order situation in the city.
Law enforcement agencies, journalists, women, children and the elderly will be exempted from the ban.
The city has seen an escalation of violence since the start of the year, especially in the number of attacks on security officers. Twenty six policemen have been killed in the first 25 days of the year, according to official statistics.
On January 25, 15 people were killed in violence in the metropolitan city, including six policemen who were killed in two back-to-back attacks on police patrol vans in the Landhi neighbourhood.
Over 10 suspects arrested
Separately, at least 10 suspects were arrested today during a raid in the Quaidabad area of Karachi, Rangers officials said.
Over 48 types of weapons were seized during the raid, they added.
