NADRA website to track aid distribution
Website to help federal and provincial govts in terms of checking up on status of operations in flood-hit areas.
ISLAMABAD:
Following the countrywide hue and cry over the government’s inability to provide cash assistance to flood victims, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has set up a website comprising information in 13 languages to ensure transparency in the disbursement of cash to the flood survivors.
A senior official of the interior ministry told The Express Tribune that the website would be a good instrument for the purpose of Management Information System (MIS).
He said that the website would be helpful for the federal and provincial governments, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir in terms of checking up on the latest status of operations in the flood-hit areas.
He said that NADRA would display the lists consisting of the names of flood-hit areas on its website. He added that it would also show the number of affected people across the board besides indicating the number of entertained and deserving people for help through NADRA’s Watan card. The official said that the website would assist donors who want to help out flood victims, adding that Unicef had contacted the government and wanted to help the affected people through cash.
He said that previously, donors had to contact the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to inquire about the whereabouts of the affected people in any of the provinces.
The official said that an option on the website would allow one to check whether they belong to a flood-affected area which has been designated as a calamity-hit zone by the concerned government. He said that this would help them to contact the relevant district coordination officer (DCO) instead of running from pillar to post.
The official said the statistics available on website would encourage donors to come up with net cash to assist the flood victims as the World Food Programme (WFP) has provided its consent in this regard.
The official said that NADRA has forwarded a request to the interior ministry for the formal launch of the website.
