Seerat-un-Nabi Conference: Ulema for promoting religious harmony

Scholars express concern over intimidation and threats to prayer leaders and religious scholars, demand protection.

PESHAWAR: Religious scholars at Seerat-un-Nabi conference on Saturday urged the need for promotion of religious harmony and unity to fight extremism in the country. They called for the creation of a joint Ulema Mashaikh council for better coordination and understanding among various schools of religious thought in the country. The conference was organised by Aalami Muttahida Mashaikh Council at Peshawar Press Club in connection with the month of Rabiul Awwal. Speakers urged religious leaders from different sects and schools of thought to play their due role for promotion of unity. They also expressed concern over intimidation and threats to prayer leaders and religious scholars, demanding the government to take appropriate steps for their protection and security.
